Sr. Director of Operations mike dixon

Mike DixonMike came to Ohio State as Director of Maintenance in July 2005. He was named Senior Director of Operations in October 2006. Mike spent 12 years in Plant Engineering and Maintenance with General Motors in Wilmington, DE, and 10 years as Assistant Director and Director of Facilities for Winterthur Museum, also in Delaware. Mike holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University and is a licensed Professional Engineer.

 

Central Services Leader Peter Calamari

Peter CalamariPeter came to The Ohio State University after spending five years in the corporate world working with Thomson. After completing his MBA at Purdue in 2000, he held several positions at Thomson, including Operations Manager, Customer Loyalty Group, and Internal Auditor, Global Operations. Peter earned his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at SUNY Maritime in 1990. He sailed as an engineer in the U.S. Merchant Marines for five years, working mainly for Hess Oil in St. Croix and TOTEM Ocean Trailers in Alaska. After the service, Peter worked in facilities as the Assistant Chief Engineer at the Metropolitan Museum and as the Engineering Operations Supervisor at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, his hometown. Peter’s diverse background is a great asset to the Leadership Team.

 

Support Services Leader Brett Garrett

Brett GarrettBrett has been with the university for almost five years. Currently he serves as Assistant Director of Maintenance, an appointment Brett has held for almost two years. Before this appointment, Brett was Senior Engineer of Renovation and Construction for three years, where he focused on project management for building structural and envelope systems. Before serving at the university, Brett gained seven years of experience as a structural engineer for a small engineering firm in Westerville. While working there, he designed support structures for material handling systems. Brett has also worked at the Ohio Department of Transportation performing surveys and designing roads. Brett has a Bachelors of Science in civil engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer. We are excited that Brett will be able to build upon the foundation he has already formed with the Planners group.

 

Reliability Services Leader Anne Pensyl

Anne PensylAnne has helped reorganize Operations since February 2007, intimately involved in shaping its vision. In addition, she has taken on roles to facilitate communication, develop customer service initiatives, and provide strategic advice to senior management. Anne has been at The Ohio State University since 1996. Her areas of management responsibility and expertise at Ohio State have included the Board of Trustees, Controlling Board, and Legislative Affairs. She has served as the Director of Administration and Communications in the Associate Vice President’s office for the past two years. Before that appointment, she was a Director-Special Assistant to the University Architect in Design and Construction. She has also served as an Assistant Director of Facility Planning, overseeing the Quarterly Project Status Reports, Memoranda of Understanding, Programs of Requirements, and Feasibility Studies. Additionally, she oversaw projects focused on Capital Planning and Space Management issues. Her special interests are in problem-solving and identifying, developing, and implementing processes. Anne holds a Bachelor of Science in landscape architecture and a Master of Arts in public policy and management, both from Ohio State. She worked as a designer and project manager for landscape design-build firms before joining the university.

 

Second Shift Leader Steve Schmalenberger

Steve SchmalenbergerSteve comes to FOD from the Ohio State University Medical Center where he worked as 3rd shift manager in Facilities Services, joining them in October 2004 after 19 years at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Environmental Services. In his role as Operations Manager, he participated on the safety, design and construction, disaster planning, and hospital operations improvement teams. He helped to design, plan for, and open three new facilities and the biohazard waste autoclaving program and facility. Steve was in the Ohio Air National Guard from 1979-1989 as an air cargo supervisor where he traveled extensively in annual training and TDY voluntary deployments. He has studied business, psychology, and environmental sciences at Wittenberg, Columbus State, and Eastern Kentucky.

 

Third Shift Leader Henry Butler

Henry ButlerBefore accepting this new opportunity, Henry served as the Building Services Second Shift Manager for eight years. Before joining the Facilities Operations and Development team, he was the owner/operator of a commercial cleaning company for five years and has an additional 17 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Henry is also an alumnus of Central State University where he received a bachelor's degree in Education. As Third Shift Leader, Henry’s responsibilities will include ensuring that consistent and reliable custodial and maintenance services are delivered on third shift. The CODE (Cleaning On Demand Experts) Team will also be under Henry’s umbrella. We are excited to have Henry as part of the Operations leadership team, and we all have much to gain from his 25+ years of experience and knowledge.
