As highlighted by Columbus Monthly, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center continues to be a leader in utilizing more sustainable practices to reduce the environmental impact of the hospital system.
“Some changes have been obvious,” said Lauren Koch, Wexner Medical Center sustainability program manager. “One has been switching out old-style lightbulbs to LED bulbs that save energy and reduce maintenance because they can last a decade or more.”
The medical center has replaced 40,000 bulbs on its main campus and hopes to do the same at other sites, according to Koch.
The Wexner Medical Center has been finding many different ways to reduce its carbon footprint from replacing single-use products with reusable ones when appropriate to using more environmentally-friendly anesthetic. It all supports the university’s broader sustainability goals.
