Celebrating Trees and Teamwork for Arbor Day

The 2025 Arbor Day Celebration hosted by Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens brought together students, faculty, staff and volunteers in a tribute to Ohio State’s ever-growing tree canopy and the dedicated crews behind it.

Among the event’s highlights was the recognition of Ohio State’s Tree Campus Higher Education Certification, a prestigious designation that reflects the university’s long-standing commitment to tree care and education.

“This certification and celebration are a testament to the incredible teamwork across our university,” said Mark Conselyea, vice president of Facilities Operations and Development (FOD). “The dedication of our FOD Landscape Services team, in collaboration with Chadwick Arboretum and the Tree Advisory Committee, reflects our continued shared commitment to enhancing the campus experience for every Buckeye.”

Steve Schneider and members of the Landscape Services crew were recognized for their essential work in managing and maintaining the health and beauty of campus trees year-round.

The 2024 ISA Certification was awarded to Mia Craigo, FOD Arborist.

The Chadwick Arboretum Collaborator’s Awards were presented to the Ecological Engineering Society; Jack Lach, FOD; Kathy Watson, MGV and Chadwick Arboretum volunteer; Julia Wilson, OSUMC volunteer manager; and Dr. Dewey Mann, director of Waterman.

The Tree Hero Award was given to Tom Gannon, FOD arborist and Alistair Reynolds, ODNR urban forester.
