Aparna Dial Bio

Aparna Dial has a distinguished public service record with over 25 years of leadership, strategic and operational experience.  As The Ohio State University’s senior director for Facilities Management and Sustainability, Aparna leads sustainability initiatives, refuse and recycling services, facilities contracts, building maintenance, custodial services, engineering and energy services, and landscaping services (roads and grounds) for the university and its Wexner Medical Center. Her scope of responsibility spans a budget of $145 million, 500 employees, more than 600 buildings and 1600 acres. 

Prior to working in her current capacity, she was the deputy director of Public Service and the Smart Columbus program manager for the City of Columbus.  She provided leadership and oversight of the city’s public service sustainability programs and the Refuse Division with over 200 personnel including refuse, recycling, bulk waste, and yard waste collection programs in compliance with federal, state, and local mandates. Prior to her work at the city, she served as the director of Energy Services and Sustainability at Ohio State and as the university energy and sustainability engineer.  She has also worked for the Arizona Department of EnvironmentalQuality in the Division of Surface Water (Enforcement Unit) and the Ohio EPA (Division of Air Pollution Control).

She earned her undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from Osmania University, India, an M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Utah State University and an MBA with a focus in finance from Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business.
