FOD Summer Camp: Improving Campus Spaces

Facilities Operations and Development (FOD) crews have been hard at work all summer preparing for students, faculty and staff to return to campus in the fall. From refreshing classrooms to roadway repairs and everything in between, they completed 293 maintenance projects, worked on 56 repair and renovation projects and custodial staff touched nearly 11-million-square-feet of space. Check out just a portion of the work put in to making sure Buckeyes have access to clean and safe learning and living facilities.

FOD Landscape Services manages more than 1,800 acres at the Columbus campus, including more than 300 acres of lawn.

Installed new carpet and cove baseboard, Pressley Hall. 

In-house custodial staff touches every single classroom, restroom, lobby, hallway and other cleanable space during the summer. (That's more than 860 spaces!)

Paint refresh, Morrill Tower. 

Each of the 42 residence halls get a deep cleaning every summer. Residence halls are mainly worked on by student life employees, but FOD supports the team as well.

FOD crews worked with 20 student painters to turn more than 7,000 student rooms in a 14-week time period.

Landscaping, The Oval. 

Landscape Services plants more than 5,000 flowers annually, mulch flower beds and prune shrubs. They also manage the more than 16,000 trees on the Columbus campus.

The James Outpatient Care building opened for patients. FDC manages more than 800 projects at a time, supporting academics, research and patient care.

Refinishing floors, Scott Lab.

In-house custodial staff conducted floor refinishing, carpet extraction and detailed cleaning in 288 classrooms, 391 restrooms and 187 lobbies and hallways over the summer.

Classroom renovation, Newton Hall. 

Newton Hall nears full completion of a 12,300 square-foot first-floor renovation. Flexible classrooms, informal learning spaces and offices on the first floor were all included in the renovation that supports the College of Nursing.

Landscape Services is responsible for more than 140 miles of campus sidewalks, over 40 miles of roadway along with 300+ loading docks.
