As highlighted by The Office of Academic Affairs, Ohio State Energy Partners (OSEP) has announced the recipients of its 2024-25 philanthropic awards. The awards provide funding for proposals that align with Ohio State sustainability goals and support the continuation of successful initiatives or the development/implementation of new programs or research projects that continue the trajectory of meeting the goals. Facilities Operations Development (FOD) Campus Shop Superintendent John Irwin earned an OSEP award to continue paving the way for a sustainable campus.
With the help of Jeffrey Ruff, a maintenance tech for FOD, the Campus Shop was awarded $50,000. The team will use the funds to purchase fourteen pieces of electric equipment to eliminate 100 gallons of diesel fuel and reduce carbon emissions by 1.016 metric tons of CO2. A large portion of the grant will fund the purchase of a concrete crusher which will reduce concrete waste from the landfill by nearly 80%.
