Ohio State has been ranked 28th on the Princeton Review’s list of Top 50 Green Colleges. This is the first time Ohio State has been recognized for this distinction and is the highest ranked school in the Big Ten.
More than 25 survey data points were analyzed to tally Green Rating scores. The rating was developed to provide a measure of a school's performance as an environmentally aware and prepared institution, the Green Ratings are reported on a scale of 60 to 99.
The 388 colleges chosen for the guide earned Green Rating scores of 80 or higher. Ohio State scored a 96 out of 99. The survey data points were in part based on Ohio State’s most recent Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) STARS program submissions.
“Receiving this rating shows our university’s strategies are moving us in the right direction,” Mary Leciejewski, associate director of sustainability and strategic services, said. “The team will continue to support Ohio State in finding new opportunities for advancing our resource stewardship efforts to support energy and water efficiency, ecosystem services, and waste diversion”
The award is due in part to Ohio State’s ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. Ohio State has reduced carbon emissions since 2015 by improving energy efficiency, greening its power supply, and updating the building design standards.
