    Before you leave for break, give your space an energy makeover. While Facilities Operations and Development (FOD) Operations crews and other essential staff remain on campus to keep our buildings safe and running, it’s still important to unplug electronics, turn off lights and check thermostats before you go.   • Ohio State Recognized for Encouraging Environmental Excellence, Reducing Carbon Emissions

    The Ohio State University has been awarded the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) most prestigious recognition, the Encouraging Environmental Excellence (E3) Platinum Achievement Award for 2024. 

    “This honor reflects Ohio State’s commitment to resource stewardship and efficiency,” said Mary Leciejewski, associate director of environmental sustainability for Facilities Operations and Development (FOD). “It reaffirms our position as a leader in higher education and healthcare sustainability practices.”

  • Bike to Campus Event Encourages Bike Safety and Resources

    On September 23, Facilities Operations and Development, the Office of Student Life Recreational Sports and Transportation and Traffic Management hosted an event promoting sustainable and healthy transportation options. 

    “As always, safety is our number one priority,” said Ohio State University Police Division (OSUPD) Lt. Bruce Allen. “We’re encouraging bicyclists to follow traffic rules for vehicles and ride in the road, not sidewalks, and always wear a helmet.”

  • In the News: Sustainable Design and Construction Initiatives to Help Ohio State Reduce Carbon Footprint

    The Lantern recently highlighted Ohio State's efforts to help reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent since adopting sustainability goals in 2015. Facilities Operations and Development's Kristin Poldemann and Aparna Dial highlighted various construction projects that support these goals.

  • In the News: Ohio State Reduces Carbon Footprint by 30%

    As shared recently via Ohio State News, the university’s carbon emissions fell by 30% since adopting sustainability goals in 2015. The achievement reflects significant momentum as the university prepares to accelerate its progress.

    "Ohio State is dedicated to sustainability," said Jay Kasey, senior vice president of the Office of Administration and Planning. "Our carbon footprint reductions show that we are taking action to produce tangible results.."

  • Cutting-Edge Lawn Care

    Summer is a busy time of year for Mike Koeritzer of Facilities Operations and Development (FOD). The FOD landscape superintendent says he and his team are beautifying Ohio State’s campus as students return to school this fall.

    “We are cleaning up landscape beds, mulching, mowing, edging sidewalks to get the campus looking good,” Koeritzer said.
