ArboBlitz 2022 brings new trees to campus

The 2022 ArboBlitz was quite the poplar event on Oct. 28, as nearly 60 volunteers teamed up with FOD Landscaping Services and the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens to plant dozens of trees outside of The Ohio Union in just three hours.

To prepare for the big day, FOD’s certified arborist team determines locations for planting, prepares holes for ease of planting and delivers trees to the site. FOD staff also provided instruction on how to plant the trees during the event and led discussions about the university’s commitment to increase the ecosystem services that campus lands provide to the university community.

The trees will be dedicated on Arbor Day in April 2023 in honor of those who will receive a “Chadwick Award” for Speaking for the Trees.

The annual event that started in 2012 aims to teach volunteers about the importance of increasing the tree canopy on campus. While the effort aligns with Ohio State’s sustainability goals, it’s also one of the five standards required to obtain the Tree Campus Higher Education certification.
