The straightening and elevating of Cannon Drive, which runs parallel to the Olentangy River, supports future growth of the university and the Wexner Medical Center and will create a certified levee to serve as future flood protection. As part of the Cannon Drive Relocation project, construction continues on a new pump station located at the southwest corner of Cannon Drive and Medical Center Drive. After heavy rain, the river elevation may rise above storm water outlets, making it difficult for storm water to flow easily from campus through storm water sewers and into the river. When this occurs, the pump station will automatically activate, forcing campus storm water through the outlets so it is able to flow into the river.
