Oval Fencing Change to Allow Additional Pedestrian Access

In anticipation of autumn semester, additional pedestrian access will be opened on The Oval by Friday, August 10. A portion of fencing will be removed to allow pedestrians to utilize the long walk to travel east and west through the center of The Oval.

Safety remains a top priority, and a majority of construction fences will remain in place to enhance safety. Pedestrians should continue to plan ahead and expect delays.

The project is expected to continue into November as Ohio State Energy Partners (OSEP), ENGIE Services and The Ohio State University complete utility work underneath The Oval to support nearby building heating and hot water. Once complete, reduced fencing will be required to support landscape restoration.

In addition, separate construction at nearby Jennings Hall has shifted pedestrian traffic to the east side of Neil Avenue between John Herrick Drive and 11th Avenue, as the west side will be closed.

Please exercise caution when traveling near construction zones and follow the instructions of traffic and safety officers.
