A note from Kristin Poldemann, associate vice president of Facilities Design and Construction
The Facilities Design and Construction (FDC) stakeholder insights project kicked off almost three years ago and has been reshaping how we do business ever since.
Three main themes emerged after more than 200+ stakeholder interviews:
- Project Management Process Improvement
- Enhanced Communications
- Culture and Relationship Development
Of the 24-focus areas identified under the three major themes, nearly half have been completed and significant work on the others has been completed to date. Examples include:
- Greater transparency and sophistication in our project financial reporting.
- Project health dashboards that allow for early identification and response to project risks.
- Greater transparency in the selection of design and construction professionals.
- Open communication and collaboration with our industry partners and other state agencies such as Department of Industrial Compliance (DIC) and OFCC.
- Workshops to engage industry that have resulted in 50+ attendees and continue to generate excitement for transformation and change we are creating.
- Ensuring every project provides estimates using the ‘Target Value Design / Target Value Budget’ template to ensures projects are delivering estimates on budget.
This is just a sampling of the exciting efficiencies and improvements that FDC continues to weave into its everyday workflow. Our focus on improving project management, communications and culture will continue as we progress on additional insights focus areas. These changes are a credit to our core working groups, the entire FDC staff and our university and industry partners.
