Technology Assists Autumn Landscaping

The Ohio State University is using technology to assess and plan for landscaping that keeps campus beautiful year-round. Certified drone pilots from Planning, Architecture and Real Estate (PARE) partnered with Ohio State’s Facilities Operations and Development (FOD) to take aerial images of The Oval this week.

University Unveils New Training Program

It’s a chance for qualified staff to take their work skills to the next level with the university's Facilities Maintenance Associate Trainee Program. FOD's Senior Business Operations Analyst Desiree Weber oversees the project.

“The program creates a pipeline of talent from service titles into skilled trades,” Weber said. “We want to develop talent within. It’s a highly competitive market, and we realize we have a great resource if we tap into it.”

In the News: Improving Water Conservation Efforts

Ohio State aims to reduce potable water consumption by 5 percent, per person, every five years as part of its university-wide sustainability goals. Read more about how Facilities Operations and Development and the College of Pharmacy have teamed up to conserve water by changing lab equipment for annual water savings of 16 million gallons.

As a resident in Morrill Tower, Maria Le noticed students were throwing a lot of food in the trash while dining in Morrill Traditions. It was then that she came up with the idea of composting the dining hall’s uneaten food.

Finding Your Way at Ohio State

Getting around campus just got a lot easier thanks to completion of a multi-million dollar campus wayfinding project, led by Facilities Operations and Development (FOD) to add and improve signs on campus roadways and garages and on Interstates 70 and 71 and State Route 315.

Trustees Approve First Energy Conservation Projects

Energy conservation measures will improve lighting at dozens of campus buildings and create a more efficient heating and cooling system for a campus laboratory building through capital projects to be launched in spring 2018.

These energy efficiency projects and four other capital improvement projects related to the Comprehensive Energy Management Project were approved by the Board of Trustees on Feb 2.

Finding a Place for Waste at Ohio Stadium

In alignment with the university’s sustainability goals, FOD continues to support Zero Waste efforts at Ohio Stadium. Working with “I Am Change Outreach,” a non-profit mentorship program of area high school and college students and volunteers assist fans at the Zero Waste stations on Ohio State football game days. The students help Buckeye fans recycle and compost correctly and, in return, The Ohio State University Department of Athletics contributes to student scholarships supporting access and affordability.
