5/4: Cannon Drive Construction News, CABS Updates

In conjunction with Framework 2.0, the university continues to invest in improvements to support transportation and parking changes related to the upcoming relocation of Cannon Drive. Please watch this educational video for a 3-minute overview of upcoming changes.

You can also view a pair of maps providing an overview of future CABS routes.

The first phase of CABS updates will take effect August 1, 2017, to align with the new parking permit year. Route changes include:

  • Med Center Express: Shifting from Buckeye Lots (Fred Taylor Drive) to west campus Carmack Lots.
  • Campus Loop North: Servicing Buckeye Lots (Fred Taylor Drive) rather than Carmack Lots.
  • Campus Loop South: Servicing Buckeye Lots (Fred Taylor Drive) rather than Carmack Lots.

Starting August 1, the Med Center Express bus route will service West Campus rather than the Buckeye Lots providing similar service times to the Wexner Medical Center while no longer stopping at Vet Med. Enhanced service, offering pick up intervals of three minutes during peak service hours, is expected to begin as early as September when the new Herrick Transit Hub is complete.   In addition, North Express service will shift from the Carmack Lots to the Buckeye Lots August 21.

CampusParc will send its annual upgrade/downgrade email in the coming days but the permit purchase window will not open until early June. Prior to that time, the university will share additional details about transportation and parking options to allow the campus community to make informed decisions about parking permits.

If you park on West Campus, here’s what you should know:

  • Construction will begin in May, and run through the summer, on west campus Carmack Lots to enhance shuttle service, increase capacity and create easier entry/exit points.
  • West campus public safety enhancements include increased lighting, cameras and blue light emergency phones as well as security patrols.
  • Beginning August 1, most commuter students will park in the Buckeye Lots and bus service will adjust accordingly.
  • West campus (Carmack Lot) parking will require a WA, WB, commuter student or overnight student parking permit (WC5).
  • Starting August 1, the Med Center Express bus route will service West Campus rather than the Buckeye Lots providing similar service times to the Wexner Medical Center while no longer stopping at Vet Med.
  • Enhanced bus service, offering pick up intervals of three minutes during peak service hours, will begin as early as September and will run from west campus to the new Herrick Transit Hub west of the Neil Avenue Garage.
  • ADA parking will be proximate to shuttle stops on west campus. Paratransit services remain available by request.

If you park at the Buckeye Lots or Ackerman Road complex, here’s what you should know:

  • Starting August 1, the Med Center Express bus route will service West Campus rather than the Buckeye Lots providing similar service times to the Wexner Medical Center while no longer stopping at Vet Med.
  • Enhanced service, offering pick up intervals of three minutes during peak service hours, is expected to begin as early as September when the new Herrick Transit Hub is complete.
  • Medical center staff who park at the Buckeye Lots and work on the medical center campus may choose to relocate to west campus to continue accessing the Med Center Express (see above). Parking in this area requires a WA, WB or student commuter parking permit.
  • The Morehouse shuttle will continue to serve Morehouse, Ackerman and the main medical center.
  • In addition, starting August 1, a dedicated shuttle will run service between Ackerman road and the Medical Center campus. The 10-minute commute will be offered every 20 minutes.
  • Beginning August 1, most commuter students will park in the Buckeye Lots.
  • The Campus Loop North (Aug. 1) and Campus Loop South (Aug. 1) and North Express (Aug. 21) bus routes will serve Buckeye Lots – making stops around the academic campus.
  • CX staff parking will still be available.
  • Shuttle service from the Buckeye Lots to the Ackerman Road complex will no longer be available.

Bus route service times and parking permit information will be communicated in the coming weeks. Anyone with questions regarding Cannon Drive construction is encouraged to email cannondriverelocation@osu.edu.
