5/21: Transportation, Parking Construction to Begin on West Campus

The university is investing in improvements to support transportation and parking changes related to the upcoming relocation of Cannon Drive, expected to begin as early as September. West campus construction will begin this week and run through the summer. The work will enhance shuttle service, increase capacity, create easier entry/exit points and add traffic signals.

Early phases will close the southern portion of Carmack 2 and Carmack 3 while improvements are made (see map for full project details). Access to west campus parking and CABS service will remain available. Commuters can expect to see construction equipment in the area but all other parking lots will remain accessible.  Specific dates will be communicated in advance on the Cannon Drive construction website.

In addition, work to provide enhanced access to west campus will take place at Lane Avenue and Carmack Road as well as Kenny Road and Carmack Road. Specific traffic impacts and dates will be communicated so that motorists may plan accordingly.

On central campus, construction for the Herrick Drive Transit Hub west of Neil Avenue Garage is also expected to begin this month. No traffic impacts are anticipated. The transit hub is expected to open in September allowing for enhanced, direct service to and from west campus. Once complete, most CABS routes will stop at the transit hub.

As always, safety is our number one priority and we ask everyone to be aware of their surroundings and proceed with caution near construction zones.

Construction updates will be posted at fod.osu.edu/cannondrive and questions can be sent to cannondriverelocation@osu.edu.
