The effort to restore a nearly 100-year-old building and bring it into the modern age requires a lot of care and more than a little respect for history. Work is underway to do just that at Pomerene Hall on the Columbus campus of The Ohio State University.
The construction at Pomerene and neighboring Oxley Hall is part of the Mirror Lake District renovation project. The goal is to take part of campus history and restore it rather than start over.

Beginning Tuesday (Jan. 3) and continuing through Saturday (Jan. 7), the Stillman parking lot will be closed for completing work associated with the 18th Ave. roadway construction project. Alternative ADA parking is available at the Arps Parking Garage.
The City of Columbus will perform utility work at three campus locations. Traffic control officers will be in place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction. In November 2015, Ohio State announced university-wide sustainability goals to guide development of durable solutions to the challenges of sustainability. As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of the goals, students, faculty and staff – as well as the Central Ohio community – are seeing the payoff. Efforts over the past 12 months have resulted in a wide-range of progress toward developing global citizens with knowledge of sustainability issues; creating discoveries to enhance sustainability research; conserving energy; reducing waste; protecting the environment; and obtaining food from local and sustainable sources.
Beginning Monday morning (12/19) and continuing through Friday (12/23) afternoon, Neil Ave., south of Herrick Drive and north of 12th Ave., will be closed to thru-traffic for utility work. Detour signage will be in place. Access to the Neil Ave. Garage will be via Cannon Drive to Herrick Drive. The roadway will remain accessible to emergency vehicles.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., Woodruff Ave. between Tuttle Park Place and the Scott House loading dock will be closed to thru-traffic for a crane lift at Hitchcock Hall. The sidewalks between Hitchcock Hall and the Physics Building will be closed, as will the southeast entrance of Schoenbaum Hall. Detour signage will be in place. During this time, the Buckeye Village CABS route will proceed to RPAC Plaza and return north, not servicing the University Hall, 17th & College Rd., Arps Hall, Blackburn House, and Mason Hall stops.
On Thursday, Dec. 1, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., moving trucks will be parked along Magruder Road, and approximately four ADA parking spaces near the Smith Lab loading dock will be blocked off for equipment delivery to Smith Lab. Additional ADA parking is available at Arps Garage.
