Construction on and around the west campus Carmack surface parking lots continues in advance of Cannon Drive construction. Beginning Monday (6/5), the southern portion of Carmack 2 and Carmack 3 will close. Fences will cause temporary closures of the Carmack 1 and Carmack 4 bus stops. CABS access will be maintained in Carmack 5, Carmack Corners, at Bevis Hall and a temporary stop will be added across from Bevis Hall. The project is expected to last throughout the summer ( see map ). In the coming weeks, work will begin to enhance traffic flow along Lane Avenue.
Beginning Monday (6/5), fences will be installed around the future site of the Herrick Drive Transit Hub west of the Neil Avenue Garage. The north / south walkway, located west of the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion and the Neil Avenue Garage, will be closed. North / south pedestrian access will be maintained on the east side of these buildings. Nine parking spaces along Herrick Drive will be removed and the traffic lanes will shift to make room for the construction fence. The project is expected to last throughout the summer. The university continues to invest in improvements to support transportation and parking changes related to the upcoming relocation of Cannon Drive. Prior to Cannon Drive construction in September, the Polo surface parking lot is expected to close Sept. 4. The new Herrick Drive Transit Hub will open Tuesday, Sept. 5. On Monday, June 5, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing through mid-morning, there will be parking restrictions on 12th Avenue at Paterson Hall for a crane lift. Two-way traffic will be maintained. The south sidewalk will be closed, and flaggers will provide pedestrian and ADA assistance.
On Saturday, June 3, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing throughout the afternoon, the eastbound lane of Annie & John Glenn Ave. will be closed near Bricker Hall for a crane lift. Two-way traffic will be maintained in the westbound lane with the assistance of traffic control officers. The south sidewalk will be closed, and pedestrians will be directed to use the north sidewalk. Parking directly in front of Bricker will be restricted. The northeast entrance will be closed. The northwest (ADA accessible) and other entrances will remain accessible.
On Friday, May 26, beginning at 5:30 a.m. and continuing to mid-afternoon, the roadway to the back of Mount Hall and Pressey Hall and the back parking lot will be closed for a crane lift to Mount Hall. ADA parking in the front of Mount Hall and the ADA entrance to Mount Hall will not be impacted. Landscaping staff will be able to access the service building behind Mount Hall.
The Ohio State University is in the midst of a renovation project of the 95-year-old Pomerene Hall. Columbus Business First checked in with the project to document what it will become. On Wednesday (5/17) and Tuesday (5/30), beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing through 5 p.m., a section of eastbound Lane Ave. between Neil Ave. and High St. will be reduced to one lane for a crane lift to Taylor Tower. One eastbound lane will be maintained. The sidewalk on the south side of Lane Ave. and some surrounding secondary sidewalks will be closed. Detour signage will be in place for pedestrians. Emergency access, ADA parking, and the service drives to the Taylor Service Court and Jones Service Court will be maintained.
